Thich Nhat Hanh - How to Fight

In Thich Nhat Hanh’s book: How to Fight, he explains that when we want to prove a point, we may be tempted to twist the truth or say something that is only partially true. We may exaggerate, embellish or invent additional details to get our point across and intentionally make something to to be greater or more extreme than it actually is. But, speaking in a way that is untrue can lead to distrust and misunderstanding among your relationships. Thich Nhat Hanh suggests that we have to practice speaking the truth and speak it in a skillful way. A skillful way can be described as speaking in a way as to not hurt other’s or cause them despair. By communicating in loving speech that requires us to tell the truth, we can benefit others, the world and ourselves, as we communicate with compassion. Thich Nhat Hanh concludes that when we do tell the truth in this compassionate way, we speak in a way that the hearer can accept what we are saying.
