Imposter syndrome?

In an article written by Ruth Gotian, Ed.D., in Psychology Today she describes that imposter syndrome disproportionately affects high achievers and women. It can be described as feeling like you are perceived as phony and a fraud. Therefore, you subconsciously alter your goals to protect yourself, minimize your accomplishments and potentially sabotage your future successes.

Ruth invites us to question what if we looked at imposter syndrome from a different perspective? How would we feel about ourselves if we thought of getting imposter syndrome because you cared so much and are motivated to succeed? This is a more positive angle than the traditional view of imposter syndrome as someone who is full of anxiety, insecurity and inadequate at their job.

Check out our next post for why we should welcome the feeling of imposter syndrome!
