Forgetfulness

How many times have you or someone around you said, “Wait, let me write this down before I forget”? Many of us see forgetfulness in a negative light and a sign of aging. However, Scott Small, who studies and treats Alzheimer’s disease, has a completely different opinion. In his book: Forgetting: The Benefits of Not Remembering, he argues that a small amount of forgetfulness is critical for our minds and relationships. Small argues that by forgetting some things, some of the time, it is actually more beneficial for us. Therefore not all forgetfulness can be seen as negative and it can actually be a good thing for our brains.

Check out our next post for ways to help our brain forget and why Scott Small recommends us to forget!
